It’s no secret, I love minimalism and simplicity in my work, especially for newborn photos. I like to allow a baby’s unique traits and personality to shine through. Usually they will settle themselves into positions they preferred best in the womb. I often hear from parents as they watch their newborn being photographed – oh that looks like how they were in their ultrasound photo. Yes! That’s exactly what I’m working towards. To me, the beauty is in letting baby be who they are and to allow the light and shadows fall so beautifully. I like my images to tell the story of how these little people began. 12-day old Ellis definitely had his own opinions and preference when it came to his newborn session. He loved his hands up by his face, he had a favourite side to lay on and he loved to be swaddled up tight. He made me work for these images and even his mama gave him extra feeds during the session to keep him calm and happy. But as always, completely worth it in the end. You can feel the love and adoration Ellis’ parents have when they look at him. I photographed this couple recently for a maternity session so it was extra exciting when they came back to the studio with their fresh new son. Here are some images from our morning together. Enjoy!
