I adore how relaxed and comfortable in-home newborn sessions are. It’s fun how a family’s home decor adds interest into the images and really becomes part of the story. As long as families love their home decor, I can usually make any space work. Having enough natural light is ideal but not always the case. Sometimes windows are too small or we end up getting a dreary day. This happens a lot in the winter months. I always tell them not to worry. As long as you’re happy with your space, I can push my camera settings – that’s why photographers invest the big bucks into expensive cameras -or I can boost the light through flash, mimicking natural light as much as possible.
This session was done in this couple’s beautiful Hamilton high rise condo. I love condos because they usually have really big windows from floor to ceiling. Their master bedroom did have one big window next to the bed, but baby’s nursery didn’t have any windows at all. We could have skipped the room altogether but what fun is that? Baby’s nursery was adorable and it’s an important part of the story. So I used my portable flash to add light into the room. Way better than not getting nursery photos at all, right? When used correctly, flash can be a great tool to allow flexibility in our shooting spaces. We went outside onto their large patio for a few outdoor photos. It was a neat space and added some additional variety into their gallery.
Baby E was wonderful to photograph and her lovely parents were so excited to introduce me to their newborn daughter. I loved meeting this couple for their maternity session and it was so thrilling to visit them again for a lifestyle newborn session.
