One-month old baby Westley was a dream to photograph. After the first couple weeks, babies are more alert and have longer awake periods. This is why typically posed newborn sessions in-studio are done in the first two weeks. Little Westley broke the mould on that for sure. He was SUCH a good sleeper. Mom fed him soon after they arrived and he was ready for a big, deep nap. It was really fun for me to guide him into some of the poses I often use for my wee newborns even though he was one month old! I call him little Westley because he is just a newborn baby but to me, holding him, he felt so big. I’m so used to 6-8 lb babies often that it was really different for me. Even though I book up each month with newborns as was the case when Westley’s mom sent me a message, I usually have an alternate option for families. My Pure Baby sessions are great for that. Beyond one month old I approach these sessions differently than 2 week old newborns. We swaddle up baby and take photos of them awake. Sometimes they do fall asleep and that’s a real treat, I’ll capture that too, but mostly babies are awake so I roll with it. They give me great eye contact and sweet expressions. I love the relaxed baby-led posing we did on Westley’s session. He was so content just taking a nap while I guided him a bit into different poses. What a sweetheart!
